Despite having a wealth of remodeling and new home building experience, the Telidis family had finally decided to put down roots in their new “forever home.” As they thought about their future and finding the perfect community to raise their family, they set out to build a custom home crafted around their lifestyle and ultimately discovered the Bur Oak community in Westlake. The Telidis’ chose to parntner with Petros Homes based on its reputation for stellar build quality, flexibility and freedom to customize their new home, working in tandem to design a floorplan perfectly tailored to their “forever home” needs.

Tell us a little about you and your family.
What do you enjoy doing together, and what brought you to this stage in life where building a new home felt right?
We love remodeling and building homes. This is our sixth home together that we’ve built/remodeled in the 8 years we’ve been together. This home, however, was going to forever be the home we raise our family in. It was the right time because our kids are starting school now and we needed somewhere to put our roots in and give the kids the best life they can have..
What made you want to build a home, rather than buy an existing one?
Was there something you couldn’t find elsewhere? A dream you were ready to bring to life?
There are benefits of buying existing but in order to obtain exactly what you are looking for you have to build. Existing homes can have rooms that aren’t useful to us, rooms that could use more space, and a floor plan that could work but is never perfect.

How did you go about selecting a builder, and what ultimately made you choose Petros Homes?
Were there specific values, features, or people that stood out to you?
The location and the lot definitely were important to us when selecting the home. Petros’s build quality, and their ability to customize almost anything we wanted was also massive in choosing.

Was there anything you were nervous about going into the process? How did those feelings evolve?
Did anything surprise you in a good way?
Putting the floor plan into real life was definitely nerve racking. You never know if a room is truly going to feel big enough until it’s done and you’re in it. Also selecting finishes you have an idea of what you want and believe it’ll all get tied together, but again you only know for certain once everything is in there. Once it was put together, though, everything turned out exactly how we wanted it.
What was your favorite part of the building journey?
Was it seeing your ideas come to life, designing custom touches, working with a specific team member?
The first meeting where we’re given the floor plan we described to the builder was an amazing day. The architects did an amazing job putting it all together for us. Also watching the house get built day by day is something very exciting. Showing up and watching something be finished each day was a good experience.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about building a custom home?
Anything you wish you knew sooner?
Have patience and trust that it will be worth the wait. It’s definitely not a quick process.
Was there a “wow” moment during the process—when it all started to feel real?
Maybe it was walking the site for the first time, seeing the drywall go up, or move-in day.
When the home was starting to get framed it felt more real. We could see what we designed as far as a floor plan and it started to feel like home ever since that day.
What does “home” mean to you now that you’re living in your new space?
How has it changed your day-to-day life or routines?
This home feels like a real home to us. We’ve been searching for something perfect for so long now, and this home has everything we wanted. It’s functional, it’s homey, it looks great, and we feel like there’s no wasted space. Home to us means you’ve found your final landing spot to raise a family.
