The Joys of Multigenerational Households

Posted On By Petros Homes

“A richness and a joy can be found in multigenerational households, because we learn how much stronger the family is when they are together.”

As the country continues to face challenges brought about from the Corona Virus pandemic, potential new home buyers and their families are beginning to re-think how they will live in their homes going forward. With nearly 60 percent of the American workforce working from home, children out of school and the financial impact of this worldwide pandemic, the interest in multigenerational new home design has exploded. As many buyers are now favoring moving away from the city life to the outlying suburbs and the demand in Northeast Ohio has been on a rapid upswing in recent weeks.

Some 64 million Americans — about 20% of the U.S. population — live in multigenerational households, according to a report issued in 2018 by the Pew Research Center.

“We have been unbelievably overwhelmed with request for a “new” type of designthat allows families, grandparents, even siblings to explore blended living arrangements that will benefit the entire family in so many ways” says Gary Naim, President of Petros Homes. The three-decade plus local homebuilding company had the perfect location to answer to the demand. Recently introduced, a small 12-site community named Edgerton Commons located in Broadview Heights, Ohio has delivered the perfect location to build a multigenerational home. First and foremost, a safe single entry street but most importantly, larger 100 foot wide frontage lots that have the width and depth to accommodate custom plans that offer great choices for a family that wants to live in a blended manner.

Since opening the model home in May, sales have been brisk and with the limited availability Naim predicts a swift sell out. With the current reservations and sales along with a lot that occupies a model single family home, there are only 5-7 opportunities to explore building a multi-generational home at Edgerton Commons.

Located in Broadview Heights and in the North Royalton school district, Naim says many potential buyers they have spoken to expect to be working at home at least in some capacity for months to come and many wonder if traditional schooling will include more home lessons and limited attendance in a traditional building setting.

“The changes that we have learned to live with have drawn families closer. If parents need childcare help or need to look after aging parents, there is a comfort knowing they can do it in a new home that only they have lived in free of health concerns”. In addition, pooling financial resources bodes well for building more space and features into a new home.

Edgerton Commons has convenient location and is within a mile of the newly renovated Broadview Heights recreation complex that offers amenities that cater to every age group.

Petros Homesoffers a variety of options to tour this community, model home and gather information both in person and virtually. Interested in learning more about Edgerton Commons and multi generational housing? Contact Emily at 440-821-1754 for more information.
